NQF 3: SUPERVISOR DEVELOPMENT

PACKHOUSES / COLD STORAGE / LOGISTICS

This Learnership focuses on the development and management / supervision of a team in the working environment. Interpersonal skills are focused on and the development of the Learner as a Team Leader on a supervisory level is the main focus.

Although still on a NQF 3 level, it is slightly more advanced that the NQF 3 Packing and Grading Processes and is intended as a bridging learnership to the more advanced NQF 4 Management Learnership.

Learners are required to complete a more theoretical curriculum and there is no practical per-se activities in the workplace as found in the Packing and Grading Processes learnership.

The Learnership curriculum consists of 17 modules.

Each module has a number of class exercises and there are tasks that can be completed in the classroom (within the given time constraints), otherwise to be completed as a homework task (this requires dedication and self dicipline from the Learner).

The Learners are under the guidance of the Facilitator and an in-house appointed Mentor.

 

Ideal Learner Characteristics

  • Be able to read and write in either English or Afrikaans.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Some knowledge of the fruit processing process.
  • Suitable for any workers level and junior supervisory/team leader level in the packhouse (Sorters, Packers, Palletisers, etc.)

 

Expected Outcomes of this Learnership

To equip the Learner and extend overall knowledge of the complete packing process thereby extending the scope of understanding and the importance of each step in the process as well as implementing industry good practices.
